Yup ... that bracing ..... or mount was
in place to hold the steering column mount in its new
location.
The original piece that fit in a similar location
was made of 18 gauge tin, and had stress cracks in 3 of
the 4 corners.
The original location for the steering column was right
at the dash lip, but with the different box
and seat setup I'll use it needed to be moved
forward about 3 inches.
The new bracket was made of 14 gauge strap, and
was bent to fit via my Hossfeld.
