I
decided to leave the rear axle location alone and
just extend the storage boxes 12" to 14".
The added cost and work to move the axle (shorten the driveshaft, fill in all the extra frame holes, change the brake lines, etc.), is just not worth it.
I did the quick rendering with the longer boxes and I hope it looks good enough.

box added length will come from a second
"small" box, that appears from the side
like one long continuous box.
I will use one of the small boxes for my battery, so I can get it out from under the cab floor. The other side will be for tie straps, jacks, etc.
I think I will steal an idea from your COE and make the small boxes open from inside the larger box.
No weird hinges on this one. Because it is short, I will just swing it open like a cabinet door.
